0021. Bespoken Thirds
Today I took a short look at Bespoke Synth, a free OpenSource synthesizer. It is a module-based synth and lets you connect them to each other to generate… music! I’ve seen some people do really cool things with this thing, especially in the directon of generative sound design. I, on the other hand, didn’t leave my comfort zone that far. I started out by putting the thing into “chromatic” mode, popped up some note sequencers and started writing down notes. It was still a lot of fun and Bespoke’s looping capabilities are really nice. This is how the thing looked in the end:

To record that piece of music I just activated the modules one after the other, then played some notes with my midi keyboard. The melody (later on in the track) is handplayed™ improvisation and I didn’t bother that much with doing a couple of retakes, so what you’re hearing in the track is “take two”. Bespoke has a “write down audio” button, which writes down the last 30 minutes of audio it generated. I imported these 30 minutes into Ardour, cut it up a little and… voilà.
Afterwards I looked a bit around in the Internet what other people were doing with bespoke and I really liked this and this video. Maybe that’ll be something to try to immtate if I’d get deeper into Bespoke.
