Originally I wanted to test out some ambient drone music stuff with Vital. This did not happen.

In this track I started out with the riff, which sounds a bit computerized, thanks to Vital’s “Sample & Hold” randomness connected to the frame selector of my waveform. Then we have the “strong bass”. Just put distortion on it, makes it sound angrier. Perfect. I also added a pattern played be something like a synth-bell, which I find fills the track quite nicely.

I played around with some drum patterns, which I think have quite the Drum & Bass vibe (which of course has nothing to do with me watching a “D&B Drumpatterns for Absolute Beginners” video on YouTube while working on this).

When listening to the song I thought “this could use reverb!”. Upon trying different reverb plugins in LMMS I found out that somehow the Calf Reverb sounds different, depending upon if I use the LV2 plugin or the LADSPA version. The LADSPA also had more controls. Might be an LMMS quirk, but I’ll go with that one for now.

After the track was finished in the form you can hear it above I thought about adding a lead. Improvising to this was fun, but in the end I was not happy enough with what I’ve recorded and didn’t put it in the end-result. If you’re still interested in hearing a not-fully-quantized / corrected version, here is a short snippet with a lead:
